Linaclotide may be considered in patients:

Who have tried at least two different types of laxatives from different classes (at the highest tolerated recommended doses) for at least 12 months, but have not had relief from constipation, and

In whom invasive treatment is being considered
The recommended dose of linaclotide is 290micrograms once daily.
If treatment with linaclotide is not effective after 3months, the patient should be re-examined and the benefit of continuing treatment reconsidered.
